Introduction to Heritage Site

In 1868, Xiamen Customs built a customs meteorological observatory and Shengqi Signal Tower on the slope of the southeast of the Kulangsu. The Shengqi Signal Tower guided vessels to enter and exit the Port of Xiamen and was called Signal Tower by foreigners and "Shengqi (meaning flag raising) Mountain" by local residents. Being the second tallest peak on the Kulangsu, the Shengqi Signal Tower and the Hutou Mountain are located across the sea. The existing flag-raising signal platform was relocated from the hill of the White Deer Cave Temple in 1877.
