Introduction to Heritage Site
Wu Zhangjiang, a native of Jinjiang, Fujian, used to open a bank in the Philippines. The Residence of Wu Zhangjiang consists of a Western-style gatehouse, courtyard walls and a three-story red-brick building in Southeast Asian style. In accordance with the terrain, there is also an annex building connecting with the main building by the corridor. It is 46 meters in breadth and 26 meters in depth. The Western-style gatehouse is set with square granite gateposts; the top of the gate is decorated with exquisite concrete patterns of Western branches and vases. The walls of the damp-proof first floor of the red-brick building were built with granite-dressed stones and the second and third floors with red bricks. The front elevation is set with a spacious corridor and the middle is connected with a semicircular balcony, supported by ancient Greek-style Ionic concrete columns; the rails of the corridor are decorated with concrete patterns. The open-air staircase on the second floor at the porch of the entrance is set with varied Western columns. The greatest feature of the architecture lies in the exaggerating decorations of the lintels of the windows and the columns in the corner. The windows are rectangular, and the window eaves on the second floor are of a pointed arch shape and those on the third floor are arch-shaped.
