Introduction to Heritage Site
Clarence H. Holleman, an American surgeon, was the fifth and seventh President of Kulangsu Hope Hospital. In 1957, he served as President of Taipei Mackay Memorial Hospital. The site was the residence of Clarence H. Holleman when he worked at Kulangsu Hope Hospital. (Another explanation is that the site was the in-patient department of the former Kulangsu Hospital donated by Clarence H. Holleman, President of Kulangsu Hospital in 1945 (in the name of the church), serving as the senior in-patient department of Kulangsu Hospital.) It is a two-story building in Southeast Asian style built with reinforced concrete. Colonnades are set in both the front and lateral elevations with square concrete columns supported on top. The columns and rails are simply designed and evenly placed. The building was built on a high platform built with granite-dressed stones. With stuccoed walls, the building looks elegant and simple. The right front of the residence lies a bungalow with a double-pitched roof.
