Introduction to Heritage Site

The tombstone of the Spanish Captain was built in 1759. The Tombstone was located on the slope of the hill in the south of the Seaview Garden facing the sea. One side of the rectangular granite tombstone is 2 meters long and 1 meter wide, and stands a wooden cross on the top of it. In the middle of the tombstone writes 12 lines of capitalized foreign letters and inscribed "1759" at the end. Evidence has shown that the owner of the tombstone was Mr. Manuel de Céspedes Karyazo who died at 30, on October 12, 1759. He was a supercargo and one of the owners of the ship Manila Galleon "Our Lady of Guadalupe" for China-the Philippine-Spain marine trade. He died of illness on Kulangsu in 1759.
